My definition of Information and Communication Technology
Information is meaningful data. The ability to be able to exchange information is communication. Technology can be tools or machines that help humans solve a problem. Information Communication Technology is the computerized hardware and software that can store, process and provide meaningful data while also helping users exchange information over a distance.
Course Reflection
What a first course TCS 701 was! I appreciated the textbook that we utilized in this course. It helped me make sense of the current system integration my district is going through.
I enjoyed the streamed videos presentations that the instructor gave, and wished I could have attended in person. If there was a way to make the live video presentations more interactive it might have helped me get to know my classmates better. I also enjoyed the Adobe Connect series. Again, because of scheduling issues - I could not attend, but I am thinking this may be the ticket for further F2F sessions.
I guess what I valued most was the fact that I could apply a current work situation with the course work. It did help me understand some problems that I was facing and also helped me plan better for future situations.
In the area of improvement, I wish the discussions would have been a little more meaningful. There were many times I would enter a post and would not get a single response. It was also frustrating that the class waited until the last day to post discussions. This seemed somewhat inconvenient - especially when we are required to post to someone else's thread.. I am not sure if it was me or if it was the way the class was set up. Hopefully next semester will be better and I will get to know my fellow classmates!
I will be taking my test soon. This is the first time I have taken a test in an online course. I hope my test skills are not too rusty!
